Undergraduate Kenyan NGO Internship Programme

Aspart of its Undergraduate Internship Programme,Youth Alive! Kenya seeks to recruit a suitable young person to join ourimpressive team of professionals as an intern on a fixed term full-timeengagement.

The UIP is a three-month internally-supported comprehensive competence-buildingprogramme under the Youth Alive! Kenya Leadership Development Programme. Theprogramme targets students below 25 years of age within the public and privateuniversities in Kenya and works to develop principle-centred leadership andmanagerial abilities among young people. It aims at providing hands-onexperience in non-profit development work by the integration of theory andpractice. Comprising structured learning and client-focused field work, the UIPworks to expand technical and practical skills of the students toconceptualise, develop, implement, monitor and evaluate programmes acrossculture, gender and age. The UIP is implemented through a sensitive andparticipatory learning process with attention given to individual learningdynamics as well as team performance. 

Working under the
 Democracy& Governance programme and reporting to theProgramme Assistant Democracy & Governance, the position will entailproviding direct assistance to the implementation of projects under theprogramme and supporting the expansion of programme strategy including thedevelopment of new activities under the programme.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Assistin the implementation of various activities under the democracy and governanceprogramme Component as guided by the programme Associate.
Assist in the preparation of programme status reports required for budgetreview, programme analysis, reports, etc
Assist in co-ordinating and organising meetings, workshops and seminars andother activities related to programme implementation and assist in thepreparation of presentations of such workshops and meetings
Assist in coordinating the activities of the youth development working groupsunder the democracy and governance programme component.
Any other duty called upon to serve from time to time.

Desired Skills & Qualifications
Mustbe between the ages of 20 and 25 years;
Must be an undergraduate student or a fresh graduate of social sciencespreferably political science or public administration at an accredited andinternationally recognised institution of higher learning in Kenya or residentin Kenya at the time of application.
Must be a fast learner with excellent interpersonal skills;
Must have excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills withfluency in English;
Must be a team player with the ability to work with others to achieve highgoals in a fast paced and culturally diverse environment;
Must have a deep knowledge of the current governance issues in Kenya and inEast Africa;
Must be a self-starter with ambition who can work independently and handlemultiple priorities and deadlines;
Must be an outstanding role model for young people, of unquestionable integrityand high ethical standards.
Possession of a valid driving licence will be an added advantage
