376, 000 Fire Fighters County Vacancies

The county governments are expected to employ more fire fighters in order to protect the public by responding to fires and other emergencies.

Kenya Fire Brigade national Association Chairman, Francis Omollo has said that the demand of fire-fighters have gone up and expected to grow faster than average for all jobs.

According to the chairman, each county requires at least 8,000 fire fighters to efficiently deal with

fire break outs.

Nairobi County needs at least 10,000 fire fighters since it has high population while as in Mombasa due to the level of construction of houses currently going on in Mombasa making fire incidences a constant reality needs at least 15,000 fire fighters.

Currently Nairobi county which serves over  three million Kenyans has only 120 trained fire fighters  Mombasa has only 110, Kisumu 24, Nakuru 25, Eldoret 34, Malindi 32, Nyahururu and Kikuyu has one each.

Other jobs likely to be provided as county governments set up fire fighting units include drivers and mechanical engineers. Customer service representatives, ICT experts, telephone operators, secretaries and mechanics for the Fire Brigade vans will also be needed.

Member of the County Assembly Service Board
Article 176 (1) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 establishes a County Assembly for each County Government.

To enable effective carrying out of functions of a County Assembly, the County Government Act No. 17 of 2012 has established the County Assembly Service Board which shall be responsible for the

following functions:

a) providing services and facilities to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the County Assembly;

b) constituting offices in the County Assembly Service and appointing and supervising office holders;

c) preparing annual estimates of expenditure of the County Assembly Service and submitting them to the County Assembly for approval and exercising budgetary control over the service;

d) undertaking, singly or jointly with other relevant organizations, programmes to promote the ideals of parliamentary democracy; and,

e) performing other functions necessary for the well-being of the member and staff of the County Assembly or prescribed by national legislation.

Section 12 of the Act further states that the County Assembly Service Board shall comprise the Speaker of the County Assembly as the chairperson, the Leader of the Majority Party, the Leader of the Minority Party and one person resident in the County appointed by the County Assembly from among persons who have knowledge and experience in public affairs, but who is not a member of the County Assembly.

Pursuant to this statutory requirement, the County Assembly of Baringo wishes to invite applications from suitably qualified person resident in the Baringo County who has knowledge and experience in public affairs, but who is not a member of the County Assembly to be considered for the position of a Member of the Baringo County Assembly Service Board.

In compliance with the provisions of the constitution of Kenya 2010 and the County Government Act No.17 of 2012, the County Government of Kilifi wishes to recruit suitable, highly qualified and competent persons to fill vacancies in Kilifi County Service Board.

Duties and Responsibilities of the County Services Board

 The duties and responsibilities of the county services board include the following:

  • Establish and abolish offices in the county public service.
  •  Appoint persons to hold or act in the County Public Service including in the board of urban areas within the county and to confirm appointments.
  • Exercise disciplinary control over and remove, persons holding or acting in those offices as provided for under the law.
  •  Prepare regular reports for submission to the county assembly on the executions of the function of the board.
  • Promote in the county public service the values and principles referred to in articles 10 and 232 of the constitution of Kenya 201 0 are compiled with the public service.
  • Evaluate and report to the county assembly on the extent to which the values and principles referred to in articles 10 and 232 of the constitution of Kenya 2010 are compiled with the public service.
  • Facilitate the development of coherent, integrated human resource planning and budgeting for personnel emoluments in the county
  • Advice the county government on human resource management and development
  • Advice the county government on the implementation and monitoring of the national performance management system in county.
  • Make recommendations to the Salaries and Remuneration Commission, on behalf of the county government, on the remuneration, pension and gratuities for county public service employees.
In accordance with the above provisions, the office of the Governor Kilifi County announces the following vacancies in the County Public Service Board to serve for a non-renewable term of six (6) years.

Chairman to the Board

Requirements and Competencies:

For appointment to the position, the person should:

  • Be a Kenya citizen.
  •  Be in possession of a first degree from a university recognized in Kenya.
  •  Have a working experience of not less than ten years in Administration and Management.
  •  Satisfy the requirements of chapter six of the constitution on leadership and integrity

Secretary to the Board

Requirements and competencies:

For appointment to the position, the person should:

  •     Be a Kenya citizen.
  •  Be in possession of a first degree from a university recognized in Kenya.
  •  Have a working experience of not less than five years.
  • Satisfy the requirements of chapter six of the constitution on leadership and integrity.
  •  Be a certified Public Secretary of good professional standing
Member of the Board
 

Requirements and competencies:
  • Be a Kenyan citizen. 
  • Be in possession of a first degree from a university recognized in Kenya.
  • Have relevant working experience of not less than five years in the relevant field.
  •  Satisfy the requirements of chapter six of the constitution on leadership and integrity
