Chief Internal Auditor

Grade TRFK 6 

1 Post

Duties and Responsibilities

 
An officer at this level will be responsible for 
  • coordination of Internal Auditors works; 
  • assist in development and implementation of audit plans; 
  • undertaking special audit investigations as may be required from time to time; 
  • ensuring risk assessment and developing risk management guidelines as well as fraud investigation strategy; and 
  • assist in setting up and implementing systems in accordance with International Auditing Standards.   
The Internal Auditor will also assist in developing, implementing and auditing work programmes in line with set targets and annual work plans.

Requirements for Appointment
 
For appointment to this grade, an officer must:
  • Have served for at least nine (9) years, three (3) of which in the senior management role in an audit function in a reputable firm;
  • Have passed Part III of the Certified Public Accountants (CPA (K) Examination or its recognized equivalent professional qualifications from a recognized Institution;
  • Have attended an auditing/risk management course or its equivalent from a recognized Institution;
  • Demonstrated professional competence in managing internal audit functions;
  • Be a results oriented team player with good interpersonal, communication and analytical skills;
  • Be a person of integrity. Compliant with Chapter six laws of Kenya.

Chief Accountant

Grade TRFK 6

Duties and Responsibilities
 
An officer at this level will be responsible for 
  • coordinating  management accounting and preparation of final accounts and statements; 
  • ensuring timely and proper bank reconciliation; 
  • interpreting regulations of TRFK pertaining to financial control and management; 
  • coordinating preparation of budgets based on work plans; 
  • ensuring provision of accurate timely reliable financial information as well as timely submission of annual financial statements of accounts; 
  • interpretation of financial policies for sound accounting principles, practices and control and management of corporate tax, VAT and other statutory deductions.
Requirements for Appointment
 
For appointment to this grade, an officer must:
  • Have served for at least nine (9) years, three (3) of which as head of Finance or equivalent position in a reputable organization;
  • Be in possession of  a Bachelors degree in Commerce (Accounting or Finance option) and passed Part II of the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Examination;
or
  • Passed Part III of  Certified Public Accountants (K)  Examination or it’s recognized equivalent qualifications from a recognized Institution;
  • Have attended a financial management course from a recognized Institution;
  • Have demonstrated professional competence in accounts work as reflected in work performance and results;

Assistant Research Officers (Tea and Health)

Grade TR 8

Duties and Responsibilities
 
This will be the entry and training grade into the Research Officers Cadre.  

Work at this level will be limited in scope and complexity and will be carried out under guidance of a more senior officer.  

Specifically, duties and responsibilities will involve: 
  • introduction to research philosophy and methodology;
  • participation in seminars and short courses on research practice; 
  • participation in ongoing research activities; and 
  • assuming increasing responsibility for research activities, particularly supervision of Laboratories Technicians and Field Officers.
For appointment to the grade of Assistant Research Officer, a candidate must:
  • Be in possession of Bachelor of Science (BSc) Degree (Second Class Honours Upper Division) in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Food Science from a recognized university;
  • Evidence of having done a project on tea preferably in the above specialized  areas;
  • Evidence of having been involved in active research for at least two years specifically on tea and health;
  • Evidence of having published at least one paper in peer reviewed journals;
  • Be able to get on well with the diverse workforce;
  • Possess good communication skills;
  • Be a Team player with good interpersonal skills; and
  • Possess analytical skills.
  • Be Computer literate 
  • MSc in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Food Science will be an added advantage.

ICAP Study Coordinator, Field Supervisors, Study Clinical Officers, Data Manager, Data Clerks, Research Assistants Jobs in Kisumu Kenya

ICAP of Columbia University is working in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation and the Ministry of Medical Services to strengthen HIV Care and Treatment services at provincial and district health facilities.

This program is part of a US Government initiative against HIV in Kenya that receives funding from PEPFAR through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

ICAP in Kenya in collaboration with the Ministries of Health is implementing a cross sectional survey of 2,400 adult males in Nyanza Province receiving circumcision in an effort to determine the post surgical adverse events of adult male circumcision.

Applications are invited for the following positions:

1. Study Coordinator

12 Months

Overall Job Function:

The Study Coordinator will supervise the day-to-day operations of an evaluation of adverse events following adult male circumcision and ensure the smooth implementation and high quality of the evaluation under the direction of the ICAP Program Director in Nyanza Province.

The incumbent must reside in Kisumu with frequent travel throughout Nyanza.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To assist in development of all standard operating procedures (SOPs) to accompany the evaluation protocol, including SOPs for home-based clinical evaluations and treatment/referral systems for adverse events
  • To play a key role in the selection of facilities and recruitment and recruitment and advance work with facilities to implement evaluation activities
  • To supervise an evaluation team, including direct supervision of 2 field supervisors, database developer, a data manager and an administrative officer
  • To organize and schedule investigator meetings, teleconferences, training sessions, assist in training of evaluation staff
  • To ensure effective communication between evaluation staff and investigators in Kenya and New York
  • To prepare weekly progress reports and disseminate to investigators To conduct other responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Diploma in Nursing/Clinical Medicine or Degree in Social Sciences.
  • At least two year’s experience in project implementation and data collection.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written
  • Excellent knowledge of Micro soft office packages is essential especially power point, excel
  • Knowledge of the use of statistical packages will be an added advantage
2. Field Supervisors

Overall Job Function:

The Field Supervisor will be a clinician and will coordinate the day-to-day operations of an evaluation of adverse event following adult male circumcision and facilitate the smooth implementation and high quality of the evaluation under the direction of the Study Coordinator.

The incumbent must reside in Kisumu with extensive travel throughout Nyanza Province.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To train and provide supportive supervision to evaluation clinical officers in examinations for adverse events
  • To provide technical assistance to clinical officers in provision of home-based clinical evaluations, including administration of treatment or referral to management for any medical complications identified
  • To supervise a team of evaluation clinical officers and research assistants
  • To oversee telephone interview to ensure they are conducted according to evaluation protocols
  • To conduct other responsibilities as assigned
Requirements:
  • Diploma in Nursing/Clinical Medicine or Degree in Social Sciences.
  • Knowledge and experience in supervision of staff and program evaluation

The Study Clinical Officers will be Registered Clinical Officers who will trace and provide assessment, treatment and referral for men who do not return for post-circumcision care and conduct study interviews.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To trace men who do not return for post-circumcision care and schedule home-based visits
  • To conduct home visits in order to assess and provide post-circumcision care
  • To provide referral for post-circumcision care when necessary
  • To perform in-person interviews in persons homes
Requirements
  • Registered Clinical Officer
  • Trained and highly experienced in male circumcision
  • At least Diploma in Medicine and Surgery from a recognized institution

4. Data Manager

Overall Job Function:

The successful applicant will be responsible for supervising staff performing data entry, cleaning and storage of a study data to produce clean, complete final data sets for transmission to CDC-Atlanta

Key Responsibilities:
  • To support collection and entry of study data
  • To clean study data
  • To supervise and track flow of data forms from facilities to study office and organization of paper records within office
  • To ensure completeness, accuracy and consistency of the data
  • To produce monthly datasets and written report describing data integrity
  • Assure that electronic and paper records are handled according to international standards for data security and confidentiality
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer studies, statistics, epidemiology or mathematics;
  • At least 2 years relevant experience and advance skills in MS Access application development & programming skills;

The Data Clerk will maintain up-to-date study databases.

S/He will be responsible for the orderly maintenance and security of data including paper records with patient identifying information.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To enter data into study databases accurately, and according to a data calendar with deadlines
  • To maintain safe custody of all program data including a system for filing paper copies of patient records, consent forms, and copies of query reports as well as other activity reports.
  • To regularly report to the Data Manager and other study staff to resolve data inconsistencies
  • To carry out routine data backup and security.
  • To perform other study-related duties as required from time to time.
Requirements
  • Diploma in information technology, medical records, statistics, public health or equivalent
  • Two years’ experience in data entry and database maintenance, preferably in the NGO sector

  • Demonstrated usage of statistical packages especially Stata
6. Research Assistants

Overall Job Function:

The Research Assistant will be responsible for overseeing day to day study activities at the sites to ensure smooth implementation of the study, safety of study participants, and accuracy of the data

Key Responsibilities:
  • To obtain patient consent to participate in the project
  • To conduct in-person interviews with patients enrolled in the project
  • To maintain participant folders
  • To assist the Study Coordinator in follow up and patient tracking
  • To perform medical chart abstractions and complete study forms for participants who return to sites for post-surgical follow up.
  • To conduct phone interview with participants who return to sites for post-surgical follow up.
  • To assist in setting project materials at the beginning of the day and completing the necessary activities at the end of the day
  • To carry out on-site quality control for data collection
Requirements
  • Diploma in Nursing or relevant Degree/Diploma in Social Sciences
  • At least six month’s experience of data collection
  • Research experience in a HIV setting administering questionnaires to patients
  • Excellent communication skills ( both oral and written)
  • Good use of Microsoft office especially excel

NGO Research Internships Kenya

Raising the profile of research for health among young Kenyans, The Fourth National Call for Research Internships (2011-2012)

The Consortium for National Health Research (CNHR). This is a Kenyan nongovernmental organization whose mission is to contribute to the strengthening of national research for health in Kenya.

This is done by providing support for multidisciplinary research to individuals and institutions, and engaging
policy makers in formulation of health research policies that are evidence based.

The Consortium also contributes to the building of networks and communities in research for health.
The Internship Programme;
CNHR sponsors an annual research internship exposure programme that enables young graduates to make informed choice of pursuing a life-long career in research.

The third class of ten interns (2010-2011) successfully complete their training in September, 2011. CNHR will offer 10 competitive scholarships for a maximum period of six months (January to July, 2012). The successful interns will benefit from close mentorship and supervision by senior researchers in various institutions across the country.

Some of the selected interns will have hands-on experience in multidisciplinary settings; others will work in laboratory/field conditions and be exposed to modern approaches of research using sophisticated diagnostic or analytical equipment, health systems research environment etc.

Applicants invited from medical, biomedical science and social science disciplines: Applicants are invited from both public and private universities. Young doctors, dentists, pharmacists, nurses, biomedical, social sciences, graduates who have an interest in research for health are encouraged to apply
Thematic Focus for 2011-2012

As part of the application, candidates will be required to submit an essay of not more than 1250 words on a topic related to the upcoming UN Summit on noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). The essays should describe approaches for Strengthening Communities to halt Preventable Deaths from NCDs.

Within this topic, applicants are required to identify and describe one strategy that enables communities cope and manage the rising incidences of cancers, cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory disease, diabetes, etc. A panel of eminent researchers will evaluate the submissions and winning entries will be considered for publication.

Beyond being supported for internship, exceptionally performing candidates may be considered for award of further training scholarships at Masters and/or PhD levels.
Eligibility
The successful interns must satisfy the following criteria:
* Be Kenyan citizens;
* Be a recent (past three years) first degree graduate in any of the medical/biomedical or social sciences disciplines from a recognized university
* Have a minimum of an upper second (or credit for non-classified first degrees).
* Have no previous health research internship experience for a period greater than 3 months.
* Be not currently employed.
* Medical and allied health professionals (medical doctors, dentists, pharmacy, nurses etc) should have completed their respective professional internship

B: Editorial, Design and Photography Consultants

Consultants are required in the areas of publication editing, design andphotography:

(i) Editorial consultants (Category 7)
 must have at least a firstdegree and five (5) years practical experience in reviewing manuscripts, copyediting and proofreading. They must be proficient in the use of DTP software,particularly MS Office, Indesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.

(ii) Design consultants (Category 8)
 musthave at least a certificate in Design and at least five (5) years experience indesign using DTP software, particularly Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.

(iii) Photography consultants (Category 9)
 with at least five (5) years experience in photography and use ofcamera. They should provide evidence of training in photography and demonstrateability to produce high quality images for print production and for video.

C: Media Liaison Consultants (Category 10)

Individuals who could be offered short-term contracts to liaise with the mediain the dissemination of the Institute’s research and other outputs are alsorequired.

The media consultant will mainly assist in

(i) attracting media attention to KIPPRA events, and

(ii) offering advice on how to increase the dissemination of KIPPRA outputs invisual, audio and print media outlets.

Applicants must:

(i) Have a first degree in media communications and at least 5 years ofexperience in the industry,

(ii) Be of high integrity, and

(iii) Provide evidence of membership to a recognized professional body.

D: Research Assistants (Category 11)

Research Assistants are required primarily for data collection and/or analysisassignments.

Applicants must have minimum qualification of a first degree in Economics orrelated social sciences. Master’s degree holders and those with previousexperience in research work and those who have served the Institute well inpast assignments will have an added advantage.

  • Have minimum qualification of MA/MSc in Economics or related social sciences. Candidates with PhD qualifications will have added advantage
  • Have at least five years’ relevant research experience in their areas of expertise, backed up by a strong publication record
  • Demonstrate ability to work within tight deadlines and to deliver quality outputs with minimal supervision
B: Editorial, Design and Photography Consultants

Consultants are required in the areas of publication editing, design andphotography:

(i) Editorial consultants (Category 7)
 must have at least a firstdegree and five (5) years practical experience in reviewing manuscripts, copyediting and proofreading. They must be proficient in the use of DTP software,particularly MS Office, Indesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.

(ii) Design consultants (Category 8)
 musthave at least a certificate in Design and at least five (5) years experience indesign using DTP software, particularly Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.

(iii) Photography consultants (Category 9)
 with at least five (5) years experience in photography and use ofcamera. They should provide evidence of training in photography and demonstrateability to produce high quality images for print production and for video.

C: Media Liaison Consultants (Category 10)

Individuals who could be offered short-term contracts to liaise with the mediain the dissemination of the Institute’s research and other outputs are alsorequired.

The media consultant will mainly assist in

(i) attracting media attention to KIPPRA events, and

(ii) offering advice on how to increase the dissemination of KIPPRA outputs invisual, audio and print media outlets.

Applicants must:

(i) Have a first degree in media communications and at least 5 years ofexperience in the industry,

(ii) Be of high integrity, and

(iii) Provide evidence of membership to a recognized professional body.

D: Research Assistants (Category 11)

Research Assistants are required primarily for data collection and/or analysisassignments.

Applicants must have minimum qualification of a first degree in Economics orrelated social sciences. Master’s degree holders and those with previousexperience in research work and those who have served the Institute well inpast assignments will have an added advantage.

This should be placed in the KIPPRA Tender Box, not later than Monday 26thSeptember 2011 at 2.30 pm. These will be opened immediately thereafter andthose willing to witness the opening are welcome at the KIPPRA Boardroom onSecond Floor.
