ICAP Study Coordinator, Field Supervisors, Study Clinical Officers, Data Manager, Data Clerks, Research Assistants Jobs in Kisumu Kenya

ICAP of Columbia University is working in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation and the Ministry of Medical Services to strengthen HIV Care and Treatment services at provincial and district health facilities.

This program is part of a US Government initiative against HIV in Kenya that receives funding from PEPFAR through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

ICAP in Kenya in collaboration with the Ministries of Health is implementing a cross sectional survey of 2,400 adult males in Nyanza Province receiving circumcision in an effort to determine the post surgical adverse events of adult male circumcision.

Applications are invited for the following positions:

1. Study Coordinator

12 Months

Overall Job Function:

The Study Coordinator will supervise the day-to-day operations of an evaluation of adverse events following adult male circumcision and ensure the smooth implementation and high quality of the evaluation under the direction of the ICAP Program Director in Nyanza Province.

The incumbent must reside in Kisumu with frequent travel throughout Nyanza.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To assist in development of all standard operating procedures (SOPs) to accompany the evaluation protocol, including SOPs for home-based clinical evaluations and treatment/referral systems for adverse events
  • To play a key role in the selection of facilities and recruitment and recruitment and advance work with facilities to implement evaluation activities
  • To supervise an evaluation team, including direct supervision of 2 field supervisors, database developer, a data manager and an administrative officer
  • To organize and schedule investigator meetings, teleconferences, training sessions, assist in training of evaluation staff
  • To ensure effective communication between evaluation staff and investigators in Kenya and New York
  • To prepare weekly progress reports and disseminate to investigators To conduct other responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Diploma in Nursing/Clinical Medicine or Degree in Social Sciences.
  • At least two year’s experience in project implementation and data collection.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written
  • Excellent knowledge of Micro soft office packages is essential especially power point, excel
  • Knowledge of the use of statistical packages will be an added advantage
2. Field Supervisors

2 Positions

6 Months

Overall Job Function:

The Field Supervisor will be a clinician and will coordinate the day-to-day operations of an evaluation of adverse event following adult male circumcision and facilitate the smooth implementation and high quality of the evaluation under the direction of the Study Coordinator.

The incumbent must reside in Kisumu with extensive travel throughout Nyanza Province.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To train and provide supportive supervision to evaluation clinical officers in examinations for adverse events
  • To provide technical assistance to clinical officers in provision of home-based clinical evaluations, including administration of treatment or referral to management for any medical complications identified
  • To supervise a team of evaluation clinical officers and research assistants
  • To oversee telephone interview to ensure they are conducted according to evaluation protocols
  • To conduct other responsibilities as assigned
Requirements:
  • Diploma in Nursing/Clinical Medicine or Degree in Social Sciences.
  • Knowledge and experience in supervision of staff and program evaluation
  • Excellent communication skills ( English and Kiswahili) both oral and written
  • Good knowledge of the use of Microsoft office especially power point, excel
3. Study Clinical Officers

10 Positions

4 Months

Location: Kisumu with frequent travel throughout Nyanza

Overall Job Function:

The Study Clinical Officers will be Registered Clinical Officers who will trace and provide assessment, treatment and referral for men who do not return for post-circumcision care and conduct study interviews.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To trace men who do not return for post-circumcision care and schedule home-based visits
  • To conduct home visits in order to assess and provide post-circumcision care
  • To provide referral for post-circumcision care when necessary
  • To perform in-person interviews in persons homes
Requirements
  • Registered Clinical Officer
  • Trained and highly experienced in male circumcision
  • At least Diploma in Medicine and Surgery from a recognized institution
  • Excellent communication skills ( English and Kiswahili) both oral and written
  • Good knowledge of the use of Microsoft office especially power point, excel
4. Data Manager

12 Months

Location: Kisumu with frequent travel throughout Nyanza

Overall Job Function:

The successful applicant will be responsible for supervising staff performing data entry, cleaning and storage of a study data to produce clean, complete final data sets for transmission to CDC-Atlanta

Key Responsibilities:
  • To support collection and entry of study data
  • To clean study data
  • To supervise and track flow of data forms from facilities to study office and organization of paper records within office
  • To ensure completeness, accuracy and consistency of the data
  • To produce monthly datasets and written report describing data integrity
  • Assure that electronic and paper records are handled according to international standards for data security and confidentiality
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer studies, statistics, epidemiology or mathematics;
  • At least 2 years relevant experience and advance skills in MS Access application development & programming skills;
  • EpiInfo, SPSS;
  • Data quality assurance;
  • MS Office Familiarity with database management system and principles;
  • Familiarity with data coding of SOP and coding dictionaries;
5. Data Clerks

4 Positions

4 Months

Location: Kisumu with frequent travel throughout Nyanza

Overall Job Function:

The Data Clerk will maintain up-to-date study databases.

S/He will be responsible for the orderly maintenance and security of data including paper records with patient identifying information.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To enter data into study databases accurately, and according to a data calendar with deadlines
  • To maintain safe custody of all program data including a system for filing paper copies of patient records, consent forms, and copies of query reports as well as other activity reports.
  • To regularly report to the Data Manager and other study staff to resolve data inconsistencies
  • To carry out routine data backup and security.
  • To perform other study-related duties as required from time to time.
Requirements
  • Diploma in information technology, medical records, statistics, public health or equivalent
  • Two years’ experience in data entry and database maintenance, preferably in the NGO sector
  • Excellent English communication skills ( both oral and written)
  • Demonstrated usage of statistical packages especially Stata
6. Research Assistants

15 Positions

4 Months

Location: Kisumu with frequent travel throughout Nyanza

Overall Job Function:

The Research Assistant will be responsible for overseeing day to day study activities at the sites to ensure smooth implementation of the study, safety of study participants, and accuracy of the data

Key Responsibilities:
  • To obtain patient consent to participate in the project
  • To conduct in-person interviews with patients enrolled in the project
  • To maintain participant folders
  • To assist the Study Coordinator in follow up and patient tracking
  • To perform medical chart abstractions and complete study forms for participants who return to sites for post-surgical follow up.
  • To conduct phone interview with participants who return to sites for post-surgical follow up.
  • To assist in setting project materials at the beginning of the day and completing the necessary activities at the end of the day
  • To carry out on-site quality control for data collection
Requirements
  • Diploma in Nursing or relevant Degree/Diploma in Social Sciences
  • At least six month’s experience of data collection
  • Research experience in a HIV setting administering questionnaires to patients
  • Excellent communication skills ( both oral and written)
  • Good use of Microsoft office especially excel

Clinical Coordinator and Community Based Treatment Support Specialist Jobs in Kenya | CHAK Jobs

1. Clinical Coordinator (Medical Doctor - Physician/ Pediatrician)

The position reports to the Project Principal Investigator.

Key roles and responsibilities:
  • Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of the HIV care , treatment and support strategy
  • Assist CHAK and its partners in the assessment, development, improvement and dissemination of sound HIV/AIDS care policies and strategies
  • Provide support to implementing sites on comprehensive HIV care and treatment issues through core technical assistance teams
  • Analyze, synthesize and disseminate cutting edge methodologies, lessons learned and best practices to partners regarding comprehensive HIV/AIDS care and their application to policies and programs.
  • Promote information exchange with partners, regional institutions and networks about effective program implementation practices and lessons learned on all aspects related to HIV care
Desired Skills:
  • Technical expertise and experience in HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, care and support
  • Demonstrated organizational, training and facilitation skills including clinical mentorship
  • Demonstrated knowledge of USG/PEPFAR results reporting requirements
  • Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and a team player
Education and Experience:
  • Professional advanced medical degree, MMed (Internal Medicine/Pediatrics)
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in HIV&AIDS programs or clinical work
  • Skilled in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications
2. Community Based Treatment Support Specialist

Key roles and responsibilities:
  • Provide technical assistance and capacity building to implementing sites staff on community based HIV care activities and treatment adherence initiatives
  • Promote linkages and collaboration between treatment sites and CBOs involved in community based HIV & AIDS care, treatment and support
  • Identify, document and share lessons on various community based treatment adherence models
Desired qualifications, skills and experience
  • Degree in Nursing, Public Health or a health related field
  • At least three years experience in community based HIV/AIDS programming
  • Good interpersonal and cross cultural skills
  • Experience in capacity building through training and mentorship and community mobilization
  • Skilled in Word, Excel and Power Point applications
  • At least 3 years experience in HIV related community work
