Programme Assistant Job in WWF Kenya Country Office

WWF - The global conservation organization, Kenya Country Office (KCO), is seeking to recruit a:

Programme Assistant

To be based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Under the supervision of the Conservation Manager, the Programme Assistant will provide technical and policy support to the conservation programme.

S/he will be expected to assist project managers in project planning as well as monitoring and evaluation of progress and reporting of the same.

Major duties will include but not limited to:
  • monitoring by taking the lead in the design and implementation of a monitoring framework to track delivery against KCO goals and objectives;
  • take lead in the analysis of data collected under the monitoring framework for assessment of progress and areas for improvement;
  • provide regularly updated reports to the Conservation Manager on the status of implementation against KCO goals and objectives;
  • provide legal and policy support to the functions of the WWF-KCO Conservation Manager especially on the review of the Wildlife Bill, development of a CBNRM policy, forests policy, general environmental law and policies thereof;
  • assist the Conservation Manager in tracking, consolidating and forwarding of project progress technical reports to WWF International and/or the relevant National Organizations and donors;
  • in close liaison with the Conservation Manager, maintain regular contact with WWF donors and respond to queries and special requests from and within the WWF Network;
  • take lead in M&E training activities for KCO Project staff, including WWF Standards (PPMS) workshops;
  • ensure liaison with field projects and when necessary arrange field supervisory and supportive visits;
  • ensure compliance to reporting schedules and network standards, both internal and external, for all projects and conservation activities.
The incumbent must possess:
  • a University degree in the field of policy/law or natural sciences (conservation, environment, natural resource management, marine, forestry, fisheries, terrestrial ecology, animal sciences);
  • at least 3 years  professional experience in project/programme management and/or support role;
  • excellent knowledge of the natural resources related policies, development and conservation community in Kenya;
  • skills in project proposal writing and M&E;
  • excellent written and oral communications skills;
  • possession of reasonable organisational and analytical skills;
  • strong vocational interest in nature conservation;
  • a working knowledge of financial management, especially of projects;
  • excellent inter-personal skills, with the ability to network and to develop and maintain strong relationships with field staff;
  • adaptable, flexible, able to take initiative and prioritize among competing demands;
  • good computer knowledge;
  • adherence to WWF’s values, which are: Optimistic, Engaging, Determined and Knowledgeable;
