PMTCT Advisor (Nairobi) and TB / HIV Program Officer (Kisumu) Jobs in Kenya

ICAP of Columbia University is working inpartnership with the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation and the Ministryof Medical Services to strengthen HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment servicesat provincial and district health facilities.

This program is part of a US Government initiative against HIV in Kenya thatreceives funding from PEPFAR through the Centers for Disease Control andPrevention (CDC).

Applications are invited for the following position to be based in Nairobi:

1. PMTCT Advisor

Location:
 Nairobi

Overall Job function:

The PMTCT advisor will provide technical support in the planning andimplementation of PMTCT activities within ICAP-supported facilities incollaboration with the Ministry of Health.

He/she will supervise regional PMTCT Advisors and will report to the Directorof Programs, ICAP Kenya. In addition he/she will be responsible for theplanning, coordination and providing overall direction for the Pediatric HIVCare and Treatment programming as well as providing strong leadership to a teamof implementers working with the facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To oversee the planning and implementation of PMTCT in ICAP supported facilities.
  • To provide on-going technical support and supervision to regional PMTCT officers who will in turn provide technical support to facilities in the implementation of PMTCT activities.
  • To oversee the training and updating of health care workers at ICAP-supported facilities on National PMTCT guidelines and protocols.
  • To strengthening referrals and linkages between the MCH where PMTCT activities are provided and the HIV clinics at ICAP-supported facilities.
  • To strengthen collaboration and linkages between PMTCT and HEI activities at the MCH.
  • To assist in the implementation of the monitoring and evaluation systems for PMTCT
  • To participate in the PMTCT technical working group in the Ministry of health, National AIDS and STI Control Program (NASCOP)
  • To oversee the planning, initiation and implementation of HIV Pediatric Care and Treatment services at ICAP-supported facilities.
  • To develop a standard package of Paediatric HIV care services and ensure its implementation in ICAP supported facilities
  • To oversee the planning, initiation and implementation of Early Infant Diagnosis program and integration of Early Infant Diagnosis with HIV Pediatric Care and Treatment program
  • To provide supervision of program officers working in all aspects of Pediatric Care
  • To contribute to training and mentorship of ICAP and site staff in Pediatric HIV Care and Treatment
  • To assist in program monitoring and evaluation in Pediatric HIV care and treatment
  • To provide technical assistance to the Ministry of Health in Pediatric HIV Care and Treatment
  • Strong mentorship and supervisory skills
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or medicine. A Masters degree in relevant field will be an added advantage
  • Trainer of Trainers in PMTCT and Early Infant Diagnosis
  • More at least 5 years experience in the implementation of PMTCT activities
  • Experience in training and mentorship of health care workers on PMTCT
2. Program Officer, TB/HIV

Location:
 Kisumu with frequent travel in ICAP-supported facilities inNyanza

Overall Job Function:

The Program Officer, TB/HIV will give direction and technical support to allTB/HIV activities in ICAP-supported facilities in Nyanza.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To provide, plan, direct and participate in formal training and mentorship at health facilities in TB/HIV co-management
  • To implement TB screening for PLWA at all ICAP-supported facilities in Nyanza
  • To implement Provider-initiated Testing and Counselling (PITC) of TB patients at ICAP-supported facilities in Nyanza
  • To strengthening referral linkages between TB Clinic and Comprehensive care clinics at ICAP-supported facilities in Nyanza
  • To provide on-going supervision of TB/HIV activities in Nyanza
  • To provide technical assistance for TB infection control at ICAP-supported facilities in Nyanza
  • To provide technical assistance on TB/HIV to ICAP officers and health care providers in Nyanza
  • To contribute to design, planning and implementation of research related to TB/HIV
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Medicine. A masters degree in Medicine or its equivalent will be an added advantage
  • Experience in public health preferably within TB control programs
  • Clinical experience including HIV management
  • Computer literacy
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work with a multidisciplinary team
